The Kings of Hockey II

Tuesday - June 12, 2023 by: Kicking Lettuce

As promised, I am here to gloat.  First, predicting the Kings to win in 6 and then calling a victory last night, the 2011-12 NHL season is over.  I don't really have much commentary for what happened, but I can honestly admit, in no way did I see a 6-1 victory to close it up.  Was the Scuderi hit and ensuing 5 minute power-play really the turning point?  Obviously it was; but I can't help but wonder how close it would have been if it did not turn out that way.  Though I won't be losing any sleep over this because sports is filled with moments that you can easily ask:  what if.. (see Texas-USC in 2005, I had a sleepless night asking what if's).

An important question now is:  Where do the Kings go, who do they keep and can they retain this core?  Dean Lombardi, the Kings GM, has done an impeccable job putting this team together and doing it the right way.  He made the hard decision, back around 2006 or so, to rebuild.  That was followed by several miserable seasons.  Seasons I will admit, I simply did not pay attention to the team.  Disloyal? No.  After coming so close with the 2001-2002 teams back in the days when the Av's and Wings ruled the NHL world, it was extremely disappointing watching how the Kings management looked more and more clueless trying to put a winning team together.  And doing it all the wrongs ways (Jeremy Roenick anyone?).  But Lombardi took that step, did it right, and now a moment of glory for Kings fans has finally arrived.  Here's to Lombardi, Coach Sutter, and JQuick!
