An Epic Collapse?
Monday - June 11, 2023 by: Kicking Lettuce
Are the Kings on the verge of an epic collapse? It has been 70+ years since any team in the Stanley Cup has been able to come back from a 3-0 series deficit. And the New Jersey Devils are half way there. Tonight is Game 6, with the Kings up 3 - 2 for the series, I did in fact predict in my last post that the Kings would win in 6 games. That means, if proven correct, they will win tonight and hoist the Cup.
But can they? It is true their mystique has been minimized. They have now lost a game on the road, back to back games in fact, given up a power play goal -- all firsts for them. Though their 3-0 series lead was never that commanding. Games 1 and 2 overtimes literally were an inch away--several times--from being the other way around. The Devil's last two wins also could have just as easily flip flopped. Never in a single moment did either side in this series have a clear advantage with the exception for one period in game 3.
I will hold onto my prediction and say with certainty that the Kings will triumph tonight. Sure, this is probably pure fandom reasoning, but I believe for the first time in the last three games the Kings will be as desperate as the Devils have been; with the added advantage of the home crowd support. Tomorrow I will be back: Either to explain why I have to eat my words or simply to gloat.
