The Highs and Lows

Monday - May 21, 2023 by: Kicking Lettuce

On one hand, you have Chelsea FC.  Champions of Football, Champions of Europe.  Completely outmanned, playing in Munich ... against Munich.  A match that is supposedly on neutral ground.  Though you can't blame Munich for this (it was nothing more than a coincidence). Down until the 88th minute, then down again in the shootout 3-1.  Against the efficient Germans no less.  Yet they somehow find a way?  A fitting conclusion, a UEFA title, for an aging club about to change guard soon and become much younger.  If it was Didier Drogba's last game in blue, cheers to him.  And Interim Manager Roberto Di Matteo?  I believe he just won himself the rights for full time duty.  The FA Cup, the Champions League?  All from a team that finished sixth in the EPL?

Then over in stateside, you have the Clippers.  The lovable losers.  Spent their entire effort eclipsing Memphis in seven games.  Only to walk into a lion's den, in San Antonio, waiting for whomever came out of the former tussle. Yes, I'm disappointed.  No, you can't find fault.  They played valiantly (well, not the last four games--but up to it).  They were on empty, depleted, and hurt.  San Antonio is a Juggernaut, what are you going to do?  Depending on the personnel, I expect more from the Clippers next year.  An exit like this at that point will be disappointing.
